Winter is here — So that is what I’ve learned about it in the U.S.
I want to talk about the winter.
It is very strange. Since I’ve decided to visit the United States, for the first time to Wisconsin — I always worried about the winter time. But when I first spoke to the people living there, they told me the weather will get worse around January. Good for me! I went to California and then back home by the mid to end of December.
I thought the snow would stop people
Since I’m from Germany, I had a different perception about the Winter. We have had a very mixed winter the past years (Event to summer). One year it snowed, the other year it got just cold.
And every year the snow service wasn’t ready — Which caused a drastic traffic and public transport slow. This was the worst.
But not in the U.S.
Back in Wisconsin, when the weather forecast announced snow, it seemed that they were ready to work even three days before the snow kicked in. Salt was on the streets a day before. That is was I also noticed here in Princeton, New Jersey. Sure, that always depends on the location.
Why do people not like the cold?
That brings me to another topic. What is it about the cold that people don’t like? Normally, everyone wants a warm or hot shower, sunny weather, wearing three sweat shirts and a big winter jacket…
That is was everyone does. So I decided three months ago, to start taking cold showers regularly. Since then, I kept the plan — Except the four days in South Beach Miami, which basically wasn’t a cold shower.
I recommend you to take cold showers
Since I do that regularly after I wake up in the morning (and after my workouts in the evening), I feel awesome. More energy and instant awakeness are at least two benefits I recognized.
And I could swear that my immune system and mind body connection improved. For example, I’m more able to calm down when (I’m in the cold) so that I more or less “forget” that it is cold.
